Alexandria Pina Barba
My name is Alexandria Barba. I’m 26 years old. I got married to my high school sweetheart early this year. This past July my life completely got turned upside down. After 6+ months of being sick, not feeling like myself, and several doctor visits I was officially diagnosed with breast cancer at 26 years old. I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma that hormonally also classifies as Triple Negative Breast Cancer. After further genetic testing I found out that I am BRCA1 positive, meaning that I inherited the breast cancer gene. Being BRCA1 positive puts me at higher risk of also developing other types of cancer in my lifetime. There are so many unknowns as to what chemotherapy will do to my body. That being said, my Husband and I decided to move forward with egg retrieval and preservation. I’ve always wanted to be a mom and I hope one day I’ll be able to. I’m almost at the end of my chemotherapy treatments. Although treatment is almost done, I’m only 1/3 of the way there. I’ll be undergoing a bilateral mastectomy. Shortly after that I’ll also have to do radiation. Treatment is kicking my butt but I’m giving it my all – trying too at least. I pray for better days everyday. Each day I wake up is a good one no matter the circumstances. I try to be my most positive self but I can’t deny that I have hard days. Extremely hard days. I’ve questioned why this is happening to me, but Jesus always provides and I know he has a plan for me. I’ve casted all my fears onto him, and he assures me time and time again that he’s listening to me and healing me. I want to thank each and every one of you for supporting me on my journey. Let’s keep fighting!
