For decades, Scott Sweeney devoted himself to strengthening public education and supporting students, families, teachers and school leaders across Georgia. He served with distinction as both a member and Chairman of the Cobb County Board of Education before being appointed by Governor Brian Kemp to the Georgia State Board of Education in 2019, where he later served as Chairman of the State Board. Scott’s commitment to educational excellence continued through his service as Commissioner of the Georgia State Charter Schools Commission and through leadership roles with organizations dedicated to advancing education throughout Georgia. Those of us who knew Scott understood that his greatest passion was opening doors of opportunity for young people and helping them reach their God-given potential. Jake, Scott’s youngest son, is currently pursuing his education at the University of Alabama and working toward his long-term career goals in engineering.
