Michael and Bobby have been married almost 29 years. Early on in their marriage, Michael suffered a spinal cord injury. He had emergency surgery, and needed to use a wheelchair. He has 9 spinal surgeries since then.  The last surgery, while successful in relieving pain, did leave him even more dependent on his wheelchair, and the van with a ramp to transport it. The Edwards’ van recently broke down, with problems with the engine and transmission that were too expensive to fix.  They have had to get a loan for a new vehicle, and to pay off the loan on the old one. Michael has retired from teaching, due to his disability, and now has taken a part time job, making transportation for him and his wheelchair necessary.
